Committed to Our Patients' Best Interests

Our patients deserve only the best care available to them. We always maintain their best interests as our foremost priority in treatment. We feel that it is important to offer the patient multiple treatment options when possible. While many dentists attempt to offer "all inclusive" treatment under one doctor, we firmly believe that patients in need of specialized treatment should only be seen by a specialist who consistently sees patients for that specific need/treatment.

Should you have further questions not addressed below regarding our services, we welcome you to contact us, North Grove Dental, your Spartanburg SC Dentist, at (864) 585-5555. We will be more than happy to assist you!

We gladly file most insurances as a courtesy for our patients! We understand that patients make costly investments into their insurance policies, therefore we are committed to ensuring that your benefits are compliantly maximized to your benefit so that your treatment is as affordable as possible.

Before your first appointment, a member of our team will call your insurance company to verify your coverage. If your first visit is not estimated to cover at 100%, a member of our team will notify you before the appointment. Please note that we can only estimate your benefits based on what your insurance company tells us over the phone, as they clearly state in their disclaimer that "benefits quoted by a representative are not considered a guarantee of coverage." At the conclusion of your first visit, you will receive an in-office estimate for any needed basic or major treatment (fillings, extractions, crowns, etc.) based on what we know about your benefits. We will also submit an electronic request to your insurance company at that time for them to mail you a more official predetermination of benefits on their letterhead prior to your treatment appointment to better determine your final and offical out-of-pocket cost due.

Please note that North Grove Dental is not a third party to your insurance policy contract and that knowledge of benefits covered under your plan is your responsiblity as an insurance policy holder.

Your estimated out-of-pocket expense will be due on the day of the appointment unless other arrangements have been made in writing. Any balance per the insurance company will be billed. Please understand that we will try to accomodate you in any way that we possibly can.

Safer Digital X-Rays

Radiographs are needed by the doctor and clinical team to properly determine treatment for any underlying decay or issues that may not be visable to the human eye. In addition, many insurance companies are now requiring x-rays as proof of needed diagnosed treatment before they consider approval for payment.

Because we always place our patients health as our foremost priority, radiographs are conservatively taken and only when needed.

North Grove Dental's radiographs are completely digital, meaning that the level of radiation is 90% less than traditional film x-rays taken by many offices and are able to produce immediate results for viewing. Every precaution is taken to ensure the patient's safety, including regular mandatory inspections by state officials for compliancy.

Call us, your Spartanburg Dentist, at (864) 585-5555 for more info or to schedule your x-rays and evaluation today! We look forward to meeting you!

Dental Cleanings & Routine Preventive Care

Did you know that statistics have shown that patients who have their teeth cleaned by a hygienist and routinely evaluated by a dentist every six months are 60% less likely to have tooth decay and/or tooth loss? It's true - and we can prove that in our office as well!

Annually you should schedule a routine dental cleaning. This is a perfect opportunity for children to be introduced to the dentist and dental treatment! We begin seeing children at age 3. During this visit, one of our dental hygienists will remove plaque from your teeth, especially from places that your daily toothbrush cannot reach, such as underneath gum line and in-between teeth. We will then clean your teeth and apply fluoride (if necessary)  to help protect them once you leave the office.  Children may also have sealants placed for the prevention of cavities.

Fluoride is a relatively recent but important advancement in dental and oral health. Studies consistently show that a safe, moderate, yet consistent exposure of fluoride to teeth in controlled varnishes, toothpastes and mouth rinses helps to strengthen and rebuild tooth structure, as well as prevent future decay leading to cavities. North Grove Dental stands behind the American Dental Association's support of safe, moderate and controlled fluoride treatment being in the best interest of the general public's oral and overall health. Periodontal Therapy & Maintenance

Commonly referred to as a "deep cleaning", a periodontal cleaning is a treatment for gum disease, or periodontitis, which helps lessen the effects of gingivitis. Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums caused by decay and poor dental hygiene or by certain types of bacteria. By giving the gums a periodontal cleaning, periodontal disease can be maintained, but sometimes can be halted or reversed if caught in the early stages. This prevents excessive bad breath, excessive decay, bone loss and eventual tooth loss. Studies by the American Heart Association and the American Dental Association have shown that when such plaque and tartar creates "pockets" between the tooth and the gums, bacteria can enter the bloodstream leading to serious conditions resulting in heart attacks or strokes.  Smokers are at greater risk of developing this disease than non-smokers.

Generally, if periodontal disease is not well-advanced, tartar will build up on the surface of the teeth near the gum line. This may require a deep scaling and cleaning of the tarter using special instruments and techniques. This procedure is a bit more advanced than a simple tartar scaling performed during each bi-annual check-up as it involves, in some cases, working under the gum line to remove tartar build-up that has already reached the root of the tooth. This tartar removal is necessary to prevent pockets from forming, in which decay can move into the tooth itself. Patients are usually given topical and/or local anesthesia for their comfort.

Our gentle hygienists will be happy to answer any further questions you may have! Please call North Grove Dental, your Spartanburg Dentist, today at (864) 585-5555 so that we may help you to save your smile!

Orthodontics/Braces

While many general Family & Cometic dental practices offer Orthodontic services, North Grove Dental firmly believes that it is in the best interest of every patient who is a candidate for orthodontics to see an Orthodontist. An Orthodontist is a dentist who practices exclusively in Orthodontic treatment, as opposed to a general dentist who may only treat Orthodontic cases occasionally as he practices other general dental treatment the majority of his time when seeing patients.

Spartanburg is home to many of the finest Orthodontists in the Upstate of South Carolina, but there are many deciding factors in choosing an Orthodontist. Many patients foremost concern is cost, however this should not be your deciding factor as such a decision can too often jeopardize the quality of your results. It is important that you choose an office where you are comfortable, trust the quality of the treatment, like the Orthodontist/his team and enjoy attending visits since you will be spending a lot of time there over the course of treatment. We strongly suggest making several consult appointments with several local offices after researching proper Orthodontic treatment and care. Many Orthodontists offer free consults but will require x-rays, which you can schedule with us before your Orthodontic consults. Call North Grove Dental, your Spartanburg, SC Dentist, today at (864) 585-5555.

Teeth Whitening

Everyone wants a beautiful white smile! We've tried whitening methods popular with other offices - including laser whitening and the ever popular "ZOOM" techniques. We've determined that the most effective whitening treatment available to patients is the Opalescence Whitening System, which was rated in a 2012 AOL poll as the #1 whitening agent on the professional market.

Because whitening is a commitment of regular maintenance, this system is highly convenient, affordable and, most of all, effective. However, please note that, as with all whitening systems, results cannot be guaranteed and often vary by patient. Call North Grove Dental, your Spartanburg Dentist, today for more info at (864) 585-5555.

Sedation For Your Comfort

We understand that many patients do not look forward to dental visits due to their past experiences at other dental offices. We're proud to say that we have had countless patients who've stated that our team and office's atmosphere have changed their perception of dentistry. However, for the apprehensive patient we do offer several methods of sedation in addition to general localized anesthesia. We also welcome the patient to bring one attendee to the appointment with them who may be present for the procedure in the treatment area.

Halcion - is a pill that the patient takes in our office 30 minutes prior to the appointment. The patient will need a driver and will not be allowed to work, drive or complete difficult tasks for the remainder of the day. Halcion is a preferred method because it places the patient in a sedated state, but, unlike I.V. sedation, still allows us to communicate with the patient. Certain health history concerns may require a physician's clearance prior to the appointment.

Nitrous - commonly known and referred to as "laughing gas", is also a popular form of sedation in the form of gas. The patient wears a nozzle over their nose during treatment, which calms the patient with a combination of nitrous and oxygen.

Nitrous and Halcion cannot be combined. Patients are monitored by a clinical team member at all times during sedation. Sedation must be requested  PRIOR to the appointment to allow our team to schedule the patient accordingly.

White Composite Fillings

The concept of a "filling" is replacing and restoring your tooth structure that is damaged due to decay or fracture with a material. We will replace the old, broken down silver/amalgam/metal fillings that contain traces of mercury with white composite fillings to restore your smile and teeth to a more natural look and feel.

Spartanburg SC Dentist, Boiling Springs SC Dentist, Mark Beard Dentist, North Grove Dental Spartanburg SC

North Grove Dental is a metal/silver/mercury free office.  We only use white composite tooth colored fillings as do most state-of-the-art offices. We strongly believe that white composite fillings bond tighter and seal to the natural tooth, therefore restoring the original strength and color of the tooth. Silver fillings may weaken the natural tooth, making them more suceptible to breaking, leaking and underlying decay. In fact, white fillings require less removal of the natural tooth structure than silver/metal fillings and are far less sensitive! And from a cosmetic standpoint, they look far more natural! Call North Grove Dental, your Spartanburg, SC Dentist, today to schedule an evaluation or cleaning at (864) 585-5555 to begin your new white, metal/silver/mercury free smile!

Crowns, Bridges & Implant Crowns

We take great pride in our crown and bridge work! You can count on only the finest quality from the initial impression, to the temporary and to the final permanent crown placement. The results are exceptional and you will be pleased with the look, feel and quality of your crown restoration! Our crowns are also free of any metal seams at the gumlines, giving a more pleasing result than most older crowns.

A crown is designed to provide greater structure to a tooth beyond the repair of a filling or to create a more pleasing look cosmetically. A bridge is designed to do the same, but also consists of an attached "floating crown" that fills in the space where a natural tooth once resided. For patients interested in implant crowns, we work in conjunction with a highly reputable oral surgeon for placement of the implant, while we place the implant crown.

Root Canal Therapy

We are pleased to treat patients needing root canal therapy on anterior (front) teeth. However, molar and other posterior (back) teeth needing root canals will be referred to an endodontist who has special equipment for treating those teeth. An endodontist is a specialist who sees patients specifically for root canal treatment, which can further assure the patient that the procedure will be completed correctly the first time by a doctor with special expertise and equipment in that treatment area who completes root canals 10 times per day as opposed to a general dentist who may only complete 10 root canals per month. Please schedule a consult or a cleaning with our office to see Dr. Beard for an evaluation to determine your needed treatment at (864) 585-5555.

A root canal sounds far more involved than what it really is. In fact, we've been told by some patients that they compare the treatment from their view as being the same as a filling. Root canal treatment involves repairing and saving a tooth that has become badly decayed or infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and the pulp are easily removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form. "Root canal" is the term used to describe the natural cavity within the center of the tooth. The pulp, or pulp chamber, is the soft area within the root canal. The tooth's nerve lies within the root canal. A tooth's nerve is not vitally important to a tooth's health and function after the tooth has emerged through the gums. Its only function is sensory - to provide the sensation of hot and cold. The presence or absence of a nerve will not affect the day-to-day functioning of the tooth.

A crown will be necessary to further secure stability of the natural tooth as the patient's natural tooth may become brittle following the root canal and be subjective to breakage, thus leading to an extraction. If the patient has previously had a crown placed on the treated tooth, a permanent filling will need to be placed in the top of the crown instead to seal the access opening from the root canal procedure.

Oral Surgery

While we do treat patients for single and multiple extractions, certain cirsumstances may require for a patient to see an oral surgeon (ie: impacted wisom teeth, sinus issues). Please schedule a consult or a cleaning appointment with North Grove Dental, your Spartanburg, SC Dentist at (864) 585-5555 to see Dr. Beard for an evaluation to determine your needed treatment.

 Implant Overbar Dentures

Dentures and partials are not a replacement for teeth - they're a replacement for no teeth. Whether you've lost your teeth due to trauma, decay or periodontal disease, replacing your natural teeth with a removal prosthetic appliance is a new way of life. While we have discontinued standard partial and denture care for new patients beginning in 2020, we have continued Implant Overbar Denture treatment in partnership with a reputable oral surgeon. Implant overbar dentures are ideal for patients who have difficulty keeping dentures in place or who wish to discontinue adhesives for a more fixed solution. We will coordinate an appointment for a consult with an oral surgeon to place the implants, during which time you'll continue to wear your existing modified denture. Once given clearance by the oral surgeon, an impression will be taken for the implant overbar denture at our office for the lab to create your new smile. While sometimes costly, this treatment is ideal for many patients seeking a more permanent and solid solution for replacement of multiple teeth that will benefit them greatly, especially as they grow older.

Our certified dental assistant, Kathy, works closely with the lab and oral surgeon for excellent results, taking great strides in assisting patients to transition to their new smile.
